Project Moon
according to my calculus 36 milions miles should be equal to a ratio of 67 milions miles
This sentence highlights that there is a bit of confusion in this film.
And contradictions. Because “Project Moonbase” would like
to be a “progressive” film from the point of view of the
role of women. For example, the US has a woman in charge of the country
and there is always a woman in charge of the mission, but at the same
time, they are described as a big pain in the ass who would go nowhere
without the help of the crafty male. as well as being good for starting
a family.
To speak well of it, we say that Richard Talmadge tries with this work
of 1953 to put out some rather “advanced” ideas. But in the
end he doesn't believe in it very much, as indeed in all this work,
which has several moments of boredom and does not in the least reach
the beauty of those sci-fi b's of the time.
"Project Moonbase" is a really fast film, both in duration and in
solutions and in production that quickly assembles a few low-cost sets
that it shares with "Cat-Women of the Moon", as well as using the same
costumes as " Destination Moon "
According to the notes, this was supposed to be the pilot episode of a
TV series called "Ring Around the Moon" which is then not made but with
the addition of some new scenes the production reaches a decent minute
for a film that rides the wave (at least he tries), of the success of
sci-fi.
"Project moonbase" opens with the classic text flowing on the screen
that explains that in 1970 man built an important lunar base for the
sole purpose of protecting and progressing humanity. But the bad guys
want to destroy it by infiltrating an agent whose characteristics have
been modified to resemble one of the crew members, in the upcoming
mission to the Moon that aims to collect data to build a base on the
planet. Mission that should be led by Major Moore, but the president of
the United States, wants there to be a woman at the helm: Colonel
Briteis, with whom Moore had an affair.
The spacecraft leaves and with a trivial question about the Dodgers
baseball team the villain is unmasked (eh, yes they have thought about
changing his connotations but they have not given him a culture lesson
...) and arrested. But too late, the spacecraft is now getting lost in
space. Moore uses the villain to go down to the moon and take some
pictures, the man dies and Moore is left alone on the moon with his
ex-beloved Briteis and what do they do? In fact, what does the United
States government tell him to do? Well… sure… to get
married. And they lived happily ever after, up there, on the moon.
Given the nature of the work, we have a very televised cast starting
with Donna Martell (Briteis) and Ross Ford, up to Hayden Rorke who you
will remember for his role, also as an army officer, in the series "I
Dream of Jeannie" .
