Trader
Hornee
From the black continent comes a small "B Movie" gem a little
unjustly 'forgotten, especially in Europe, but on balance is quite remarkable
history, characters and humor. All very well chosen.
"Trader Hornee" is a sort
of female version of Tarzan, full of gags and some sexy scene, that today would
rise in prime time, but at the time earned him the label of "Rated
X".
Very fast and slim the movie tells
the story of a group of people led by the detective Hamilton Hornee hired by a
bank for purposes of inheritance, to find Algona, a child disappear in Africa
fifteen years ago. Algona was accompanied by his parents Gregory and Margaret
Matthews two zoologists/researchers on a mission to find the legendary White
Gorilla Nabucco. The two adults have been killed but no trace of Algona.
So Hornee and five others (his
assistant, the cousin of Algona with his wife, a zoologist and a witness to the
bank) as a guide found former Nazi spot ventured into Africa. The journey is
not easy even if running gag between clownish and bathing naked women wink at
the soft-core. Algona still be found and looks like a vaudeville star announced
by his tribe. She is now a beautiful and blond queen. Apart from threatening death
the group beetween funny scene and ballets, Algona taste the lover quality of
all members of the group, befor the most classic happy ending
Light and healthy fun seventies. A
film that makes us smile many times and although it is made with the classic "equity"
is more than well done. The cast has no big names, but several players who went
on to careers with smaller parts or TV series, the same goes for screenwriter
David Freeman and the director Jonathan Lucas has made only two films in all its
carreer. Deek Sills, the blonde and beautiful Algona is strangely missing from
the scene immediately after this film. Back in the jungle? Perhaps, for others
she married a music entrepreneur.
