The Beast Of Yucca Flats

At first impression one might think to Ed Wood. But he isn’t. It 'true that there is a sort of his shadow (radioactive), either because there is the trusty Tor Johnson, because this movie compete and win in a “B movie” contest in which the Ed Wood’s movie seems masterpieces

"The Beast Of Yucca Flats" is tremendous. Difficult to follow, incoherent, absurd and even slipped out of the historical posthumously appreciation.

Coleman Francis assisted by Anthony Cardoza, creates a product of rare and unnecessary ugliness. The director, went behind the camera for a few more films, through his career doing small parts in several movies including some of Russ Meyer.

Here the core is the usual fear of radiation , the atomic bomb and Communists. All of which are summarized in Tor Johnnson’s characther Javorosky a prominent Soviet scientist who escape in the United States where he is follow by the emissaries of the KGB. To escape from the he goes in an military area (no sign to mark this) where there was some nuclear tests.

An explosion turns Javorosky into a "beast" a murderer, less colorful than Hulk, but most of the comic than  Toxic Avenger.

His thirst for blood led him to kill several people, including a topless woman who comes out of the shower (but with shoes) in the first minutes of the film. Murder, however, that is never claimed and where among other things Javorosky didn’t appears giving the impression that was is a scene shot and pasted in post production. As it is.

We ha have of course an quite happy ending a “moving” final scene that was improvised. To speak about this movie and explain the total trash is very difficult. You must see it. And if you see it you will also notice that the dialogue, very few, occur with one outside the scene or with the head turned so as not is possibile to see the sores. The film was shot without sound with the audio stuck in post-production. Here are bloopers, scenes that are too dark to be able to understand something and guns without bullets.

With the proper Tor Johnsson, the Swedish former wrestler then voted in a long career in B movies, (this is the last among other things), there are two actors, Douglas Mellor, Barbara Francis, who have achieved great success in the theater, but little to the cinema, having seen this infamous episode and the few other films have done. Two words deserves the location mentioned in the title. Yucca Flat is a large desert area of Nevada, considered the most radioactive area in the world. There the United States conducted nuclear tests from 1951 to 1992, explosions that caused the change of the geological area. And perhaps the name was enough to change even a film into something monstrous.
