Sex Play
"Afghanistan? it's in africa ins't? No! Where is it? Nobody know! "
Let's face it, the aliens and the monsters after long time are tiring
and are dangerous. Must be for this reason that the dear Jack Arnold
after a long and distinguished career in sci-fi, with masterpieces such
as "Tarantula", "The Incredible Shrinking Man," "Creature of The Black
Lagoon", "It Came From Outer Space "and many worke in popular TV series
and movies such as" The Mouse That Roared ", decides try the soft-core
comedy with a lot of "Girl Power ". He does with "Sex Play" in 1974, a
British film with the director and the main actress Americans.
This culture clash is not too good for the film, the result of which
could be better. After a good start and some decent points that emerges
here and there, the Arnold's creature, this time naked, crashed
to the ground as the worst alien spaceship. And even worse, no conquest
to the end.
It's a pity, because the absolute frivolity in the background is
interesting and is accompanied by a pop soundtrack very catchy. But in
a context so easy, in the middle of the movie arrives a heavy charge of
plot which slows the whole story.
The beginning is sparkling and full of a funny irony. Bunny O'Hara is
the one that triggers the "sex play" of the title, she is an
uninhibited girl, daughter of an ambassador. She likes amaze the
hight society, going around in windy days without underwar or going to
bed with a large numbers US army's members
Her father moved to London for some scandals of his daughter is
concerned about the behavior of the girl and enrolled Bunny in a
selective women's college. But our Bunny gets worse instead of better,
and carries with her the bored mates, Jackie, Chris and Sal. They go to
swim without swimsuit, they play a basketball game against a selection
masculine that end with few clothes on and above all they start a
competition between them. Yes, a competition, the winner is who
to bed with a person. And not an ordinary person but a randomly one
chosen by the newspaper, so the goals of our girls are: a star of
Chinese ping-pong, a Russian diplomat, an American businessman and a
member of the British royal family.
The attempts to reach the goal are, as you can imagine, comedians and
disastrous and show large female nudity. For example, Christine (an
sparkling Jill Damas) must have sex with the chinese sportsman, is
dragged into the shower by all the members of the national team,
saved then by the gruff coach. Or Bunny (Christina Hart) has hot
moments in the booth of a guard of the Royal Family. And so on.
But all this "rocking the boat " creates an intricate international
incident that threatens to change the balance of the world, making this
film a kind of spy story, a thing too much important for all that we
have seen before . The story lurches, it becomes boring and back on
track only in the last few minutes.
A Jack Arnold out of his field and far from home, struggling with one
of his last works for the big screen, with a story written by Peer
J.Oppenheimer and Jameson Brewer, the first film producer and second
one writer of TV series .
The director could have done better, but we must say that he direct a
series of very beautiful actresses, a cast, including men, made by
people who have had a career more or less major in television and
cinema.
Christina Hart is the absolute protagonist, young actress who debuted
at only nine years, and after a few soft-core film began working
constantly for several television series, never forgetting the passion
for the theater, a passion that now sees her as teacher in the USA.
Companions of bravado are Jill Damas, Drina Pavlovic and Jane Anthony.
From the male point out Harry Towb, Glenn Beck and Rick Young famous
for her role of Kao Khan in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"
