The Brain That Wouldn't Die

"It's madness, not science!"

"Let me die! Let me die". Dramatic voice and a black screen. Title that stands out suddenly in large letters on music quite dramatic. This is the beginning of "The Brain That Would not Die" and in fact is the only thing believable in this movie. We are facing an anthologic B-Movie that passes from sci-fi to horror, largely taking cues from Frankenstein and saving in a way heavy on the budget. . A pleasure for fans of B's

Directed by an "enlightened" Joseph Green, a unknown director with a very little numbers of movie in his curriculum, this masterpiece  over time become a real cult, also mentioned "The Man With Two Brains" of 1983  with Steve Martin in addition to, in our opinion, giving some ideas to   Troma for Toxic Avenger.

The protagonist of this story is Dr. Bill Cortner. A doctor/scientist of a certain thickness. Capable to work with a open brain with a team of just three people, and of course be able to save even hopeless cases. Ah ... of course his office has the equipments of a very simply doctor. Maybe less too.

Prototype of the successful scientist, goergeous and full of money, so as to envy the doctors of modern TV serials, he runs on his Spider car with enviable ease and with his beautiful girlfriend Jan. But one day one of these tours  ends in tragedy  and the girl loses her head. In the physical sense.

How he founds it is a mistery, but Cortner is able to retrieve the head of the woman and revive it by putting it in a sort of basin connected to some cannulas.

So Bill, begins to wander the city in search of a new and beautiful body for his girlfriend. Jan meanwhile, will not have a great desire to live, but also develops mental powers such as to control anyone. Her favorite is a monster (whose face reminds Toxic Avenger) and for some unknown reason it lives in a room of the laboratory and the existence of which is often forgotten by Cortner and partners so that  all peacefully gives back to the door to where the monster comes out.

It 'just a B Movie of monstrous beauty, thos of mad scientists crazy for love and that has obviously incredible special effects. For example, people maimed arms, detached by the monster, which visibly hide the limb under the dress or just the basin where the head is kept.

Made in 1959 comes out due to a large numbers of problems in 1962. Nor anywhere, because in Britain was rejected and never proposed, until 2006 for DVD release.

The best thing is still the legend of the credits. The film ends with an "The Head That Would not Die", instead of "Brain". It is said that it was a simple mistake. Legend a bit 'strange but then the film is no exception.

"The Brain That Would not Die" is  a of the movie in the public domain.  It 'can be downloaded or displayed without risk of crime, from the internet archive or cineclassic online. We put entirely in streaming.
