Black Emmanuelle, White Emmanuelle

After some successful episodes of "Emanuelle" and after its various spin-offs, including "Laure", the most obvious thing, was to continue the successful series and to meet two characters who had a great success and, as we know, light the fantasies of the audience.

It's Brunello Rondi,
most famous as a writer (worked on the script of "8 e mezzo" and "La Dolce Vita") who takes the opportunity of the meeting between Laura Gemser and Annie Belle,  Rondi is also the brother of a well-known movie reviewer, and takes the block of actors of "Emanuelle" and add the two most important characters of "Laure" and settling all in a very conventional Egypt.

Unfortunately not always the collaborations and the relationships works, because it would be obvious to expect a good, if not great film, from Rondi who instead creates a movie with intellectuals and erotic theme in the "Emanuelle" serie .

It's obvious before we talk about the script and the realization that the intellectuals intens with a the genre (so define it) "Emanuelle" don't works. The heroin has many merits, it's free, strong, feminist, non-trivial, but it is certainly far from the study of being, from the worries of the life and also frome the intellectual cinema in which Rondi tries to enter with disastrously results.

The screenplay was supposed to be a strength, but it's a slow series of human problems, involving as many boring characters. Everybody are in Egypt, all struggling with stories of love and sex and psychological problems. An infinite series and continued doubts of human, driven by characters who should be the representation of the society. Boredom assails us after a few minutes and only Laura Gemser and Annie Belle give a reason  to reactivate the brains (certainly not because of their acting!). To tell the truth there are even more scenes exquisitely trash who are worth to see: Emanuelle, which here is a model, laying in the middle of corpses, an orgy with animal sacrifie and a series of soft-core scenes, which arise from absurd situations.

It 's hard to follow this story that brings us under the pyramids and in the home of Crystal (played by Nieves Navarro starred in many genre films), a three times married woman, who lives with her daughter Magda in a huge house. There converge Laure (Annie Belle course) other daughter of Crystal, the model Emanuelle, with photographer Carlo (Gabriele Tinti), a kind of hippie guru, Anthony, (Al Cliver), and a former silent film actor, starred by Feodor Chaliapin Jr. Feodor was an actor of a certain thickness and he was the son of a great opera singer and a dancer, and in the first part of  his career he has starred in big productions, before entering in the seventies in Italian genre films, and before come back in 80's in big movies (for example, "Il Nome Della Rosa", "Inner Circle" and "Moonstruck").

Returning to the big house in which all converge, Laure brings havoc with her libertine style that affects everyone. Emanuelle subdued by Carlo, her sister Magda that is unleashed and the mother who discovers that Antonio is a kind of charlatan.

The wonderful Annie Belle is the central character, disruptive, that breaks the mold, in a film in which, to tell the truth, all break. Something else.
