Finders
Keepers, Losers Weepers is an English-proverb a song by Elvis and is
also the fate of those who lose this movie. Who see this movie then
"holds" it and who loses it should cry
Although isn’t at the level of
his most famous movies, this is a small and interesting work that shows
the sparks pop ideas of Meyer, starting with the Lovers that replace
the Losers. Ideas that then explode a few months later with the smashing
"Vixen."
We also think that our hero is gearing up for the next
movies, taking also ideas from the past. The beginning of the movie let
us think about that. Desert. A Fiat 124 convertible runs through the
sand, while a busty girl in topless with a helmet is dancing. Zoom on
the tits of a dancer of a topless club. Joyful and sex on a soul song
composed by Marvin Elling, which then becomes a pop song by William
Loose and Stu Philips that will be sampled in the nineties in "History
Repeating" by Propellerheads and Shirley Bassey.
After two zoom
Budweiser’s sing, which must have given some money starts a story that
mixes sex and violence. One story, however, different from those to
which we are accustomed, those in which Meyer throw us in the middle of
his crazy vortices. Because in this 1968 film, there is no funny
eroticism, there aren’t cartoon’s characters hit by a very strong
violence that eventually seems a slapstick comedy, no, there is less
joy, there is a though violence and slow narration in the central part.
The
characters in this story are moved, like many others of the King of
nudies, almost by carnal instincts but are devoid of all of the
grotesque and the absurd, accompanying us in a story very though, noir,
claustrophobic not easy to assimilate immediately .
Of course there is a large dose of tits and soft-core scenes, set in a club and in various rooms.
The
place is called "Red Carpet" is owned by two men, Paul and Ray. The
first although married to the beautiful and hot Kelley prefers to
frequent the brothel owned by the equally Curvy Claire, so eagerly that
his presence is not always welcome. Kelley who tries to conquer
again her husband, dance as a stripper in the club (in some ways as will
Lavonia /Lola langusta) but she conquest Ray who seduces her in a pool.
In
the meantime, however, two robbers sent from a third person enters the
club and then kidnap Paul and then Ray and Kelley back from their hot
moment, starting a spiral of violence that saves very few people.
Although
different and less interesting than many of his film "Finders Keepers,
Lovers Weepers!" works, from beginning to end, helped by a beautiful
soundtrack and the very original opening credits.
The performers are
actors and actresses who in most cases have done little in the cinema
or have played minor roles, including TV series.
Lavelle Roby who
plays the ruthless Claire, deserves some words because after making the
debut in this film she has starred in "Beyond The Valley of Dolls", and
"Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song," as well as Numerous TV series.
