Sharknado 2: The Second One
It’s
the same old story, and we, the fan of B’s, know it very well. If you
want to become famous, if you want to become an idol, you must produce a
masterpiece or a very bad film. A really trashy movie, unwatchable but
thanks to social become a viral phenomenon.
This story is know very well by Anthony C.Ferrante and even better by “SyFy” channel.
Brief
summary of previous facts: last summer, almost exactly a year ago,
"SyFy" broadcast, without ambitions "Sharknado" by Ferrante. There
should be little or nothing on TV that night, and thanks to a tweet, and
then to many re-tweet million people tune in to “SyFy”. They watch the
movie. They comment very badly on Twitter. "Sharknado" becomes a social
and viral phenomenon. The follow broadcasting on TV even have a growing
audience.
The business and social dynamics or if you prefer the old
saying "strike while the iron is hot" are not a secret for the TV
channel of for the director and his staff.
In January 2014, in fact,
begin filming "Sharknado 2: The Second One" who moved from Los Angeles
to New York, for eighteen days of shooting, during one of the coldest
winters in recent years. The story is set, however, in the summer the
production has some technical problems and therefore they often shot
with the technique of "guerrilla filmmaking" or if you prefer with the
"it’s one-take!”
Adding a concept to what we said at the beginning,
when one assumes the status of idol, albeit thanks to an incredible
crap, he has the right but also the duty to do worse, be proud that he
produced an horrible movie, winking to the audiences saying "Look at me
and us, we are (proudly) all assholes"
That’s the point of
"Sharknado 2: The Second One," its goal is to be very trashy,
deliberately putting incredible and absurd scenes, melodrama, patriotic
feelings. "Sharknado" was a serious attempt (failed) to make a
mockbuster, this is a serious attempt to make a parody of the previous
and maybe poke fun at people who love B Movies.
To strengthen this
hypothesis there are endless cameos of famous US artists, whom we will
see later, a large number of references (the movie "Airport" and the
video game "Frog") and the opening scene.
Fin and April, the heroes,
always played by Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, are flying to New York for
the launch of the book "How To Survive a Sharknado." When they are
landing, a storm hits the airplane. A storm of sharks of course, that
pierces the plane kills some people in the cabin. But the plane lands,
thanks to the skill of Fin, who almost beat the incredible performance
of the pilot of "Snake on a Plane."
Nobody believes him but New York
is going to be hit by the plague that has already hit Los Angeles. At
the same time the sister of Fin and her family are visiting the city,
shopping, visit the Statue of Liberty and go to a Mets game. The heroic
Fin must save everyone while the beautiful April escapes from the
hospital where she was hospitalized due to severe injuries that has
caused a shark on the plane. He no longer has a hand.
Fin of the
course doesn’t save only the relatives, but all the New Yorkers, who
recognized his leadership and starts to fight the invasion under his
orders. There is of course the electric saw, the symbol of this saga,
which Fin uses to kill the flying sharks.
Between the subway and
streets of the city flooded, (with a lot of products placement) famous
monuments destroyed, the production use CGI, a little, we say a little
better than the previous.
There are many "cult" scenes (apart the
beginning, notable are those in the stadium and the ending with Fin
flying over New York), for a movie that has attracted a large number of
famous artists. Vivica A.Fox Mark McGrath, for example are between the
protagonists, as well as Matt Lauer and Al Roker two anchormen of
weather forecast for NBC, which from only playing a cameo became almost
the narrators of the story with many news and updates about the storm,
sealing their performance killing a shark in their TV studio.
Among
the many others we see the mythical hero of the series "Airplane!"
Robert Hays, who here is a pilot and Judd Hirsch another great actor
famous for the series "Taxi" and for having won the Academy Award in
1980 as "Supporting Actor" for "Ordinary People, "which in this film is
of course a taxi driver. Then the list continues with comedians,
bloggers, musicians, wrestlers and also the vice president of "SyFy".
All cheerfully in this bad movie.
Shot with a budget a little higher
than the first movie, "Sharknado 2: The Second One" aired for the first
time the 30th of July 2014 on "SyFy" and almost at the same time it was
announced the third episode, which should be set out the United States.
They say maybe in Europe, perhaps in Asia or Oceania or simply in an
area even larger than New York and Los Angeles, which will be the place,
they also say, of a huge sharkpocalypse.
