Very few James Bond's cousins are worthy to go to London to complete
dangerous missions. Among them there is Dick Worth, who deserves all
the honors of the institutional case. Actually Dick isn't a secret
agent, but a car racer that collaborates with the CIA. He is not
English he is not a spy, but no matter, because he is definitely the
hero of one of the best Eurospy.
Terence Hathaway (Sergio Grieco), a great expert of the genre, directs
in 1968 a work that for many is his best one. With the trustworthy Ken
Clark and the beautiful Beba Loncar is struggling with a movie that
blends very well the action with the humor.
Sure, there are inconsistencies, the recitation is not exciting and
above all there is an absurd ending but these flaws don’t ruin
the result.
Co-production between Italy and France, however, turned in Stockholm,
Zurich and London is the classic spy story hyper messed up, where all
betray everyone and where sometimes you get lost in the maze of the
many subterfuges.
A certain way in the relationships and the elegance of the protagonists
makes this film enjoyable even from aesthetic point of view, thanks to
a nice music between jazz and pop composed by Armando Trovajoli.
And then it must be said "Fuller Report", is also reassuring from the
political point of view, because the Soviets and Americans take tea on
a terrace and in the end they go away hand in hand.
So a script, written by four experts authors, who also escapes from the
classical structure of the struggle of the two blocks, leaving the
casus belli to secret services diverted from various countries.
A spy story low-cost (compared to those of Bond) that begins with the
arrival in Stockholm of the USSR Svetlana an exile, announced by the
way of a lot of Italian and French newspapers that for some reason
occupy newsagents of Stockholm.
From here begins the mess. Spies die, Svetlana is kidnapped and
released and again kidnapped with our Dick Worth that for some reason
ends up in the middle of the story, and successfully resolved the
situation and fall in love with the beautiful Svety (as he calls her).
The finale slides a bit 'too much in the impossible, but the mission is
accomplished and big jaw Dick Worth can back home very happy.
The handsome Ken Clark that after some movies in Hollywood arrives in
Italy to (of course) work in Peplum, western and especially in Eurospy,
plays right and thanks to the physical the hero. It's not a great
performance but he does the job as much as Beba Loncar (Svety), which
ends in Hollywood from Yugoslavia and then in European cinema with
major productions and later in Italian genre cinema. Closes the list of
main characters, an unrecognizable Lincoln Tate that from the dusty
world of the West becomes a stylish CIA agent with a pipe.
