The Cabin in the Woods
When they lend you a house and you want to go on holiday with, your girlfriend and various friends. But in the end something doesn't work and you find yourself in the middle of a nightmare. Yes, that is how the usual film of the usual stereotyped group of guys seems to be, the athlete, the scholar, the bitch, the virgin and the fool, who awakens some demonic force or attracts some psychopath and gets slaughtered.
Well, in a certain sense this is how things go, but this 2012 film shows a refined and engaging balance of things, which distort everything we know well. First of all, the director is Drew Goddard, screenwriter of "Cloverfield", "World War Z", "The Martian", "Buffy" and the unsuccessful "Bad Times at the El Royale" which he also directed. With him, Joss Whedon another famous writer.
Similar experiences, between cinema and TV, also for the protagonists, among whom the already famous at the time Chris Hemsworth stands out, which we will see again with Goddard also in "Bad Times at the El Royale". With him, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams and a cameo by Sigourney Weaver. A respectable technical and artistic cast that does not disappoint expectations. "The Cabin in the woods", can be considered in part a comedy horror, but mind you, we are light years away from the craziness of "Scary Movie" and in part a gore film that does not save litres of blood and bodies made in pieces. But above all, this Goddard film is a subtle satire against the world of cinema, or rather, against the dynamics of the film industry, between producers, screenwriters and the audience. And many, but many, stereotypes, from the definition of the characters that I brought back to the beginning.
A beginning, as mentioned, from "teen movie" that does not bode well then brings us an area in which everything is distorted and criticized.
The world of conspiracies, of control is at the centre of this story, which sees these kids on vacation in a strange house in the woods. Things start to happen there, behaviours change, reactions are pure, but behind this there is the cynical direction of an organization that wants to see blood flow and that controls every environmental situation.
A nice chapter that repeats and renews the canons of horror.
